November 6th Superintendent's Conference Day

The next Superintendent's Day is scheduled for a half-day on November 6, 2018. Our strategic focus will be on safety and security with an encore training from Armoured One tailored to each building.  Please take a moment to review the agenda and register for any sessions appropriate to your role to ensure that you accrue CTLE credit. Even if you aren't required to document your professional learning, please register for the various events so that our presenters are properly prepared. There will also time for collaboration at all grade levels for a variety of topics...see the agenda for details.

Voicepods

Do you have students that could benefit from "text-to-speech" services, allowing the written word to be spoken aloud? Or perhaps your students could benefit from listening to their written work with a critical ear as they proofread and revise their writing? Voicepods is a service that allows for realistic text-to-speech conversion. Simply type text or upload a file and Voicepods will convert it to an audio file that can be shared with a link. Flipgrid Fever

Aside from Google's suite of instructional technology tools, it is rare to find an application that has the potential to be meaningful for students and teachers from ALL grade levels and subject areas. That is why I've been Flipping for Flipgrid! (check out my blog post from March 2018). Essentially, Flipgrid is a social learning platform in which students post video responses to teachers' prompts. It is one of the hottest ed-tech tools and is growing in popularity around the world for its ability to make student thinking visible, give every student a voice, and allow students to collaborate and communicate with a wide audience. Further, Flipgrid continues to add fun, collaborative features like Mix Tapes, the Dicso Library, and #GridPals.

• Mix Tapes: a place to showcase videos from your Topics. Create a MixTape and add videos to share with the world!
• Disco Library: Share and find Topic templates across all audiences and subjects. Every Topic you add ignites engagement opportunities in classes around the world! 
• #GridPals: Connect with fellow Flipgrid educators and classrooms around the world!
